Mrs. Grayburn LOVED teaching music! She retired in the year 2019 from Cheatham Hill Elementary School. She has been there since they opened the school. She has taught music at Baker Elementary School in Acworth for six years and Harmony Leland Elementary in Mableton for two years. She has also taught pre-school music and has been a classroom teacher in Virginia, teaching seventh grade reading, seventh grade math, and third grade. She also is an Adjunct Instructor for Kennesaw State University teaching the Music Methods class to Early Childhood Education majors. Mrs. Grayburn has a Bachelor of Music Degree with a concentration in voice from Grove City College in Grove City, Pennsylvania, where she also took her methods classes for elementary education, and a Masters of Education Degree in Middle Grades from Berry College. She is working on her Specialist Degree in Instructional Technology from West Georgia University and expects to graduate in December of 2012. Mrs. Grayburn was born in Virginia, but moved before she was a year old to Long Island, New York, where she grew up. She is the oldest of four children. Mrs. Grayburn met her husband in college and has three children. She played the flute in the band, the violin in the orchestra, took piano lessons, taught herself to play the guitar, and has sung in numerous choruses and choirs. She has also played in several handbell choirs over the years. |
For the parents: Mrs. Swint is a certified music specialist starting her seventh year at Dowell Elementary. She is also a board certified music therapist who has worked with children, adolescents and adults for more than 24 years. Originally from Virginia, Mrs. Swint has Bachelors in Music therapy from Radford University, a teaching certificate and master's degree from University of West Georgia, and is currently working on an Education Specialist degree in instructional technology from University of West Georgia. Mrs. Swint is also active as a french hornist and instructor in the Cobb music community.
For the students: Mrs. Swint plays guitar, piano, french horn, and loves to sing! Mrs. Swint comes from a long line of musicians. Her father is a trombonist, and her grandfather and great-grandfather were old time piano players. She is married to Kerwin Swint, a political science professor at Kennesaw State University, and the family includes three boys, a dog, and three cats. Mrs. Swint loves to hike, travel, and read books. Mrs. Swint has traveled to England, Ireland, Scotland, Holland, Italy, the Czech Republic, Canada and Mexico. She loves to see how people enjoy music in other countries. She is passionate about gelato.... can you find out what this is? |
